Dwight Evans wasn't a happy camper last week when both the FOP and D.A. Lynne Abraham decided to endorse Bob Brady. He felt he deserved the nods based on the work he has done on the Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia.
He may make up for it tomorrow with the expected endorsement from the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity. Evans said moments ago that he will release his economic policy paper at the same event tomorrow evening where the clergy will give him their support. That means a lot of manpower for GOTV activities and the influence of ministers at many of the city's black churches.
"I think that you see that I have a cross section [of support] and continue to build the momentum to winning this election," Evans said. "I have the broadest base of support of anyone running in this election."
The endorsement shouldn't come as a surprise. The group has made it known that they back Evans over any of the other Democrats in the field.
(Not all black ministers throughout the city are in Evans' camp, of course. Bob Brady announced his faith-based plans a few weeks ago with the support of a group of African American clergy.)
