Metro columnist Clark DeLeon takes a look at the mayoral race today, with his view on the "truth squads" ramping up anti-Tom Knox ads.
He sees Michael Nutter as the leader now ...
While the long knives were sharpening to carve up Knox, Nutter has emerged down the stretch like Smarty Jones at the Preakness. Unless yesterday’s rousing endorsement by the Philadelphia Inquirer jinxes him, Nutter should now be seen as the frontrunner.
... could a 527 against him be next?
In which case you can expect to see attack ads from a newly formed 527 called Barroom Smokers for Truth. Cough, cough, cough.
More from today's Metro on the mayoral race:
What the candidates are saying about the pending fiscal crunch.

Barroom Smokers for Truth. LOL.
That's about all they have against the guy, too (although there are probably some things he's said that they could spin against him -- which could backfire if people figure out it's just spin).
Go Nutter!

Wait someone has come up with an anti-Nutter 527? Yet no one has formed one against Fattah or Brady? What? I find it so odd when reform and fresh change is in the air, the 2 candidates discussing change are being attacked. Yet the 2 big-time machine politicians in the race have no forseeable attack ads running against them.
Someone get all that wonderful footage of those 2 from The Shame Of A City and cut a 30 seond spot. Pronto.

It isn't so much because Fattah and Brady are, to put it gently... haven't done things, on film, that make them look really bad. Attack ads are normally directed at the person seen as the biggest threats, and in this case, it was Tom Knox in the last few weeks. Now that Nutter is surging ahead, they're going to start attacking him. They have the fact he was on the Casino board and took a few no-bid contracts, and they could use the smoking ban against him. I don't really know.
Now if Fattah was in the lead, or at least second, then I could see some attack ads against him.

Just to be clear, Clark's talk about an anti-Nutter 527 was a joke. Get it, Barroom Smokers for Truth? Well, I think it was a joke.

Yes, being a regular reader of DeLeon's colunn, I'm 99% sure it was a joke.
BTW, Nutter was on the Convention Center Board not the Casino Board.

... it would also appear that Bob Butera was in charge of approving no-bid contracts at the Convention Center:

LOL! Sorry, my mind was elsewhere! I meant Convention Center! Of course, I got the no-bid thing from Fattah, so what can I say...

I was kidding, I swear ;).
No in all honest I'm surprised Jerry Mondesire of the local NAACP chapter hasn't started some anti-Fattah 527. He did start a website called Fattahxray.com, never finished it.
