Juan, not Ben, calls for end to Imus
Ideas are flying around City Council as we approach the May 15 primary, including a bill co-sponsored by Councilman Bill Greenlee and Jim Kenney to be introduced tomorrow that would ensure "prevailing wages" and benefits are paid to service workers at any future development in the city that is built with financial assistance from the city.
Also tomorrow, Juan Ramos will hop on the burn down Racist Skelator, er, Don Imus, bandwagon.

Ramos, who faces a double-digit field of at-large candidates, including one with his same last name (Benjamin Ramos), is introducing a resolution that calls for Imus to either resign or be fired. The resolution — about as binding as the one calling on the U.S. armed forces to leave Iraq — calls for a boycott of Imus' nationally-syndiated show until he resigns or is fired.

I think people will take a different view of Imus when they discover he has entered therapy. Check out the details on my blog - "Necessary Therapy".

I am pretty sure that Councilman Ramos can be thinking of other bills for the city that Don Imus. Has Don Imus ever been in Philly?
I still see kids dying on our streets, students not have proms because the schools can't afford them, people having their electricity and gas shut off, prisons are becoming the biggest business around (Move over Walmart here comes CFCF).
All Juan Ramos has to do it create a resolution to ban Don Imus?
Makes me wonder how long does it take to get an application for asylum to Canada or Mexico, or even China seems to focus on relevant issues.

I praise Councilman Ramos for sponsoring such a resolution against Mr. Imus.
Mr. Imus words against the Rutgers Women's basketball team were terrible and he deserves all the grief he is getting for those comments.
Councilman Ramos has a strong record of fighting crime on our streets, making sure our public schools are better, and working to make sure people keep from getting their electricity and gas shut off (He is a member of the Gas Commission).
His record is more than just a resolution against Don Imus (a resolution that was approved overwhelmingly).

The Philadelphia City Council just set a dangerous precident!
Mark my words this "resolution" on Don Imus for comments he made about the Rutgers women's basketball team is a violation of the first amendment.
The first amendment reads as such "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
This "resolution" is the beginning of a prosecution on free speech. What Imus did was wrong and offensive. His employer has every right to fire him as he created a hostile working environment.
The problem is when the government gets involved and starts making it a political issue they must start regulating all offensive behavior. This resolution could lead to future resolutions that could limit our right to criticize and therefore change politics.
I hope you guys know what you are getting into.

Maybe Councilman Ramos and Councilman Kelly can team up to introduce a bill prohibiting Don Imus from eating Foi Gras and requiring him to adopt stray cats.
