I hope I'm not being too unbiased by pointing out the fact that Queena Bass has no chance of winning the Democratic nomination for mayor.
Still, I can't help but think that if she put some things together she could get elected to some post in the city. Consider this: Organizers from last week's Next Great City initiative at first wouldn't even let Bass into the Academy of Natural Sciences. Who came to her aid? Bob Brady.
When the forum began, Bass was sitting in the front row, surrounded by her trusty campaign team of father and brother, Hamilton and Hamilton, senior and junior. There was an agreement, apparently, that Bass would be given time to give at least an opening statement. When moderator Flavia Colgan passed her over, who came to her aid? Bob Brady.
The chairman of the Democratic Party comes to your aid twice in one night. Maybe, just maybe, he'd lend a hand if she wanted to run for something smaller. There have to be pols in the city begging to be even recognized by Brady.
I asked her afterward why she insists on running for mayor and not aiming maybe a teensy bit lower for her first shot at elected office? She said it's because being mayor will give her the best chance to effect change and fight the racial injustice she believes cost her her job at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
