SEPTA gets punched in the face a lot in the city with complaints over service and cost and cleanliness and on and on and on.
A lot of the complaints are valid, of course, built on extended waiting times, dilapidated transit stops and sometimes surly drivers.
But sometimes the system works well. Especially when you only have to take the Orange Line. Consider my morning of covering the mayoral race:
Train from City Hall to Fairmount stop to cover Project H.O.M.E.'s homeless voter outreach. Then from Fairmount south to Walnut-Locust for Chaka Fattah's arts and culture plan at the Merriam Theatre.
After a stop at the Union League for a lunchtime forum (I loved this line: "I come to the Union League a lot," Tom Knox said. "My wife is a member and she drags me along.") it was back on to the subway, Walnut-Locust to Girard Avenue for Bob Brady's arts and culture announcement at the Freedom Theatre.
Then back to the office near City Hall. With a burrito in my belly I can get back to blogging.
