Here's a blast from the past (and Chaka Fattah's Myspace page). I don't see why Fattah doesn't just cut this into a few 30 second spots and run with them. Hell, it'd make me vote for him.
As for Fattah's ad now running on TV (whatever you think about it, I can't get the soundtrack out of my head), spokesman Solomon Jones checked in to say that it wasn't a rush job in response to the latest Keystone Poll, showing Fattah dropping.
"We have always had a specific strategy concerning our media buy," Jones wrote in an e-mail. "We recognize the importance of the ad, but it is merely a part of an overall plan. Our field operation, our communications team, and our grassroots support are also critical components."
The plan was to begin advertising in the closing weeks of the race all along, Jones says. Something tells me that plan could have been altered a bit if the campaign had more moolah in the bank.
That Colbert video's pretty funny. It wouldn't affect my vote, though. After watching Shame of a City, I'd rather not have national politics introduced into the mayoral election again.

BTW, Fattah cut part of the video out. The full version, which is funnier, is available on Comedy Central's website (if it redirects you to a video list, scroll down and look for "Know a District: Pennsylvania's 2nd):

From that segment I learned that Fattah has absolutely no sense of humor and was not briefed by anyone as to who Colbert was or what his show was about.

He also seems generally "un-briefed" about when and where he's supposed to be along the campaign trail.
