A city judge today ordered officials from two PACs with connections to Democratic party leaders to give statements under oath to the Ethics Board.
Judge Gary Glazer approved two emergency petitions to compel testimony from Edgar C. Campbell, brother of party secretary Carol Ann Campbell and treasurer of the Genesis IV PAC , and Anthony Cacciavilano, a staffer in Bob Brady's congressional office and treasurer of the Unity 2001 PAC.
Both groups have made large donations to both Campbell (for her Council run) and Brady's mayoral run and the ethics board wants a look-see into the inner-workings and how decisions are made to make donations.
"We're trying to learn more about how this political action committee operates," said ethics board interim executive director Shane J. Creamer Jr.
Cacciavilano is expected to give his testimony next week, while Campbell did not appear in court. Neither Cacciavilano's attorney, Common Pleas Court candidate J. Scott O'Keefe or Campbell was available for comment.
We should note that the hearing today was needed because neither party responded to subpoeanas served on them on April 17.
